ABSTRACT

Parts of speech are no doubt crucial for students' success as they begin constructing sentences and making their writing not just better, but more powerful. They need to understand something as simple as how words like "cook", "wash", or "rake" can be used as a noun and verb, or how changing the usage can change the meaning of the sentence. Flipped learning is where direct instruction moves from the group learning space to the individual learning space, and the resulting group space is transformed into a dynamic, interactive learning environment where the educator guides students as they apply concepts and engage creatively in the subject matter. This chapter also discusses the watch, summarize, and question (WSQ) model and the Triple E Framework. While keeping parts of speech themselves at the core of these types of lessons, it is also necessary to think strategically about the use of the technology.
