ABSTRACT

Whatever is receptive to change (gardish ) is also receptive to a cause. It is in a given condition (ḥāl) due to one cause, and in another condition due to another cause. Its being is not devoid of the property of ‘being in union with these causes'. Thus, its being depends on ‘being in union with’ the object with which it is united. We have established, however, that the Necessary Existent is not in union (pawand dār) (with any other entity). Consequently, the Necessary Existent is not receptive to change. 1
