ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on strategies for thesis writing, and begins to integrate the ways a dissertation builds on these strategies. It shows that the process of thesis writing is divided into a series of steps augmented by suggestions to help keep you efficient and productive. The similarities between an architectural design project and designing a thesis go quite deep. Thesis work in an architecture curriculum will typically fall into one of two categories: The design thesis, and the written thesis. One may start your thesis by journaling, but critical reading will quickly enter on its heels. At the thesis writing stage, a journal serves a somewhat different function than it once did. Unlike other types of writing, which have fairly specific expectations for structure, manifestos are presented in various forms, reflective of the writer and the unique architectural position. This chapter presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
