ABSTRACT

Improving the construction sector’s efficiency (in terms of time, cost, quality, risk and impact) is seen as a major gain. The ambition to achieve it has resulted in pressure over the years to move to more collaborative procurement. It has led to other changes in the industry, each with a cultural dimension, including other changes in procurement (e.g. design-build, fast-track, and build-own-operate-transfer), the ongoing push for prefabrication, the increasing importance of sustainability, and project management (to integrate all these approaches).
