ABSTRACT

This paper examines the role of mass communications and educational technology in national development. The first section discusses the relationship between communication, technology and development in India and suggests some reasons why education through mass media can be important to national development. The second section reviews the past and present communication strategies of India aimed at resolving problems of illiteracy, low productivity in agriculture, health hazards, overpopulation, and focuses on the Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE).
