ABSTRACT
Wolfgang Pauli (1900–1958) was a brilliant theoretical physicist who won the Nobel prize in 1945 for his contributions to quantum theory. He seemed to arrive at original conclusions by a means that not only involved mathematical logic but also intuition. In his Nobel speech, for example, he said that he was ‘unable to give a logical reason for the exclusion principle’ for which he won the prize. 1
