ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores the Chinese dream of a harmonious world by tracing the notion from Hu Jintao's policy discourse, through Chinese academic theorizations, in the art and architecture of official propaganda, via mocking online spoofs and finally into the proliferation of the Chinese dream under Xi Jinping. The book explores some diversity in the assumptions about time and space that underpin party-state documents, academic writing and the visualizations of harmonious world at the Shanghai Expo. Xi Jinping calls for more and improved communication and explanation of such words, and of the Chinese culture to which they are said to be intrinsic. Before Xi's leadership takeover, the term harmonious world had been written into the Chinese communist party (CCP) constitution and numerous official strategy documents.
