ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the transformation that occurred in women's lives at the community level, as a result of Shariques intervention. Following a positive change in assets, women's willpower becomes stronger so that they aspire to challenge the power structure. When women's willpower is strong, so is their capacity increased. Financial and tax training made a great impact on women's participation in the functioning of local government bodies. Training in tax management helped women's representatives to play a proactive role in determining the amount of taxes their constituents would pay, as well as in encouraging people to pay their taxes. A number of indicators might be included in the lists of assets that have good connections with women's empowerment in the context of Bangladesh. Training and their participation in various meetings have had a positive impact on women's economic capital. As a result, they started to accept women's power in rural settings that hitherto had been dominated by patriarchy and masculinity.
