ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book reveals that women are working together to ensure their basic rights. Power within is related to self-confidence, self-awareness and assertiveness. The book shows that women's level of self-confidence and self-awareness of women increased after receiving training and after joining in UP activities. The power has been made possible due to Shariques intervention. Women's empowerment, although it still has a long way to go, has certainly advanced a lot. Despite gender equality seeming a far-from-attainable goal, the winds of change are blowing, slowly but surely, in rural Bangladesh. The book explores to what extent Sharique played a role in empowering women in Bangladesh. It finds that the programme worked well in the rural society of Bangladesh, where structural and social factors restricted women's mobility outside the home and hindered their participation in family, community and state decision making.
