ABSTRACT

The PRO assessment is not meant or intended to be a diagnostic tool, manual, or formulaic approach but rather a guiding framework for pragmatically exploring the strengths, pathways, and goals that will help a person move toward greater levels of happiness and well-being. Having undertaken the PRO assessment, both therapist and their client will have a clearer understanding of the problems they wish to address, resources they have in the core component areas of happiness that both they and therapist can utilize for reaching their desired goals, and outcomes they wish to achieve. This chapter presents Seligmans PERMA model of five components followed by some sample questions to assist both therapist and client in their search for and discovery of resources. It is important for the therapist to have an outcome-oriented assumption and attitude that incorporates hopefulness and a positive expectation about the client's ability to achieve their goal as well as an approach that works toward having that happen.
