ABSTRACT

This chapter speaks about the acceptance is a core ingredient for a life of well-being. Paradoxically, give up fighting against unwanted emotions, research shows that acceptance can lead to a dissipation of emotional intensity and duration thus putting in a better position to make choices about how to manage both the situation and experience it. Acceptance is not a soft option or copout but rather a process of change in itself. If someone has been fighting a long, no-win battle against anxiety, depression, anger, substance abuse, or any other issue, to shift to a more accepting position is to begin a process of change. The acceptance of those emotions and behaviours may be the first step in a new process for making things different in the future. The chapter explains some stories about the acceptance of life's inherent sadness and joys, about to give up the fight, to step back, and to go with the flow.
