ABSTRACT
This chapter is concerned with the law and practice relating to enforcement of international rules and standards of ship safety and prevention of pollution from ships. It outlines the rights and duties of states in international law to take measures to enforce international standards or domestic rules; describes measures they have adopted to co-operate in controlling ships’ compliance with international standards; and reviews the part played by industry controls.
