ABSTRACT

In 2010, a meta-analysis on emotional intelligence (EI) was published in the Journal of Applied Psychology (Joseph & Newman, 2010). Meta-analysis means a quantitative way to summarize the fi ndings of past studies in order to come up with an overall estimate concerning the relationship between two variables. The major concern of EI meta-analysis is the relationship between EI and job outcomes. The conclusion of this meta-analytic paper is that EI is related to job outcomes, especially for jobs with high emotional labor requirement. In fact, this conclusion had been confi rmed in some other meta-analytic publications.
