ABSTRACT

Although the focus of this chapter will be on sustainable public procurement, because there is an additional legal dimension, it should be clear that any organisation (including enterprises) can benefit from using life cycle costing (LCC) in its procurement practices. Furthermore, it is important to bear in mind that the procurement cycle is an important process within an organisation. It begins with the definition of needs, before goods or services to be purchased can be specified. Companies are selected as possible suppliers and are requested to submit bids. Evaluation of the bids leads to signing of a contract. Monitoring and follow-up are recommended, to be used (among other things) as input for the next procurement cycle.
