ABSTRACT

The High Performance Learning approach identifies two core sets of characteristics that students must develop if they are to become academic high performers. These are the building blocks for developing advanced thinking and advanced learner behaviours. Everyone must understand their significance and work towards becoming fluent users of the Advanced Cognitive Performance characteristics (ACPs) and Values, Attitudes and Attributes (VAAs). In the 1990s, some researchers did very interesting work on Cognitive Accelerated Science Education (CASE), in which they found that by making ways of thinking more explicit in their science programmes they could improve student performance not only in science.
