ABSTRACT

Underlying the approach of diocesan leaders is the philosophy that voluntary activism is a legitimate mechanism for community action. Diocesan leaders have first aligned the theological frame that social action is a manifestation of one’s faith and Christian identity with the underlying community-held frame that spirituality is not disconnected from daily life. Leaders have also recognized that local communities have inherent capacity that is essential in addressing local problems. Diocesan leaders have facilitated this frame resonance through the strategic use of frame-aligning language and didactic tools. As a result, more than four thousand volunteers currently participate in more than two hundred Equipas de Vida in northern Mozambique.
