ABSTRACT
This chapter explains the choice of appropriate acoustic spaces. It discusses the door and window isolation. The chapter examines the multiple glazing considerations. It also discusses the special recording techniques. For the greatest flexibility in the recorded sounds, a range of different acoustic spaces is desirable. Many things need to be taken into consideration when designing studio layouts, such as the control room requirements, the inter-room visibility, and the ease of access to frequently used areas, such as vocal rooms. The control rooms may be regarded as being 'external' to the recording rooms, they will nevertheless make their demands on the design of the other rooms. The window system between Studios One and Two raises a number of interesting topics regarding window design. The choice of room combinations needs to be done with not only a sense of balance, but also an understanding of the way that the expected clients will most probably use them.
