ABSTRACT

One of the greatest difficulties educators encounter is when a parent calls to complain about our alleged inappropriate behavior, and it turns out that the parent is right. These situations do not necessarily need to involve allegations of gross misconduct on our part. Instead, they can be simple situations like a miscalculated grade or a misplaced student assignment. The reason for the difficulty has little to do with the error that was made. It has a great deal to do however, with the challenge of not losing our self-worth or being defensive while acknowledging that the parent’s complaint has merit.
