ABSTRACT

It is never any fun to be the bearer of bad news. Few of us ever look forward to ruining someone’s day or potentially having to deal with the emotion of the recipient’s reaction. As educators, some of us may be a little hesitant simply because of past experiences we have had or because of negative situations others may have described for us. Additionally, we may have to contact or work with a parent who has a less than favorable reputation and that may add to our trepidation. In this chapter, we will focus on methods, tips, language, and approaches that can help us to most successfully tread these troubled waters.
