ABSTRACT
In the tradition of independent schools, Redmayne has identified some core values that guide the educative processes of the school. At Redmayne College, the Grad Lounge is located at some distance from the main hub of the school. Boys at Redmayne tended to categorize places as either near or far, which didn't have a lot to do with actual distance between places, although that played a role in a different way. The core values align with the school's intention to form boys into men of a particular kind. The fact that boys are expected to gather together to consume food in the company of one another and that this arrangement is provided for within the daily timetable is significant nonetheless for the types of social activity and modes of sociability that are encouraged and facilitated at Redmayne. The boys compare their school to other independent schools in the province, as they articulate the distinctive and symbolic features of it.
