ABSTRACT

Over the last two decades, providing affordable health care, housing and education services to the people has been the most pressing challenge for public policymakers in China. Among them, health care has been society’s major concern, due not only to the urgency of health problems but also to its complexity. Despite several attempts by authorities to reform the system, there are still significant problems for China’s health care system, as can be seen in the wide usage of the phrase ‘kan bing nan, kan bing gui (getting medical care is expensive and difficult)’.
