ABSTRACT

Act three must top all the other acts - it leaves the most lasting impression on the audience. If the tasks are too easy the audience will not feel that surge of emotion when the protagonist defeats all and is triumphant. The climax is the culmination of all the story elements set up in Acts One and Two. A writer wants to ignite discussion. Because a writer is exploring a point of view, exploring a character and exploring a theme, there will be room for audiences to agree with the writer's vision or not. Suddenly switching genres in the climax is disconcerting and ultimately disappointing to an audience. The best climaxes are emotional and physical, and often bring about a catharsis or epiphany for the protagonist. Careful choosing of the location of the climax adds resonance.
