ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the classic overlay of the eleven step story structure for a screenplay with an example of Cinderella story. The overlay splits the eleven steps into three acts. Act one consists of Steps 1 to 3: character's overall need and why, character logically goes for it and the character is denied Act two includes steps 4 to 9: character's second opportunity to achieve overall need, conflicts about taking advantage of the second opportunity, decision to go for it, all goes well, all falls apart and finally, the crisis. Act three includes: steps 10 and 11: climax, the truth comes out and the new normal. The eleven step story structure, focusing on character journey, has its own rhythm. Stories may spend more time on one step of the eleven step story structure than another. The eleven steps ensure that there is a new normal for the protagonist at the end of every screen story.
