ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the methods to allow designers to draw and paint each costume article, adding specific fabric details (such as fabric patterns), in separate Photoshop layers. The approach facilitates making specific apparel changes and updates due to a design, directorial, or rehearsal note. New Photoshop layer garments can be added to the same sketch to allow the designer to explore different colors and patterns, and old layers can easily become "invisible". Each tutorial has a video companion on the author's YouTube channel. Fabric patterns can present a challenge. Photoshop has tools that will allow the designer to introduce an impression of a fabric or an actual replica of a fabric print. Designers can use the Lasso tool as a time-saving device to add facial details, specific accessories, and the like to costume renderings.
