ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how these diverging perceptions come about. On the one hand, chapter would argue that the question of political implications depends on what you look at. While it is difficult to attribute recent UK climate change legislation to the influence of a securitization process, one can clearly observe how the convergence of security and environmental discourse has changed the understanding and conceptualization of security policy in the UK. Different parts of a UK climate security discourse coalition approached the issue through their established practices, rationales and technologies from very different fields and institutional backgrounds. Rather, people can see the development of a complex climate change and security assemblage. While the practices of governmental actors from the Ministry of Defense (MoD), Department of International Development (DfID), and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) were reoriented towards climate change, they were not subjected to a broader governmental logic.
