ABSTRACT
At the same time, the major shift in attitudes to the family and discipline occurred in the second half of the eighteenth century. This shift was a part of enlightenment reforms, which aimed at better, more humane society. In this society violence should only be used by the highest authorities, that is, by the state to maintain good order.
