ABSTRACT

Chapter 9 concludes the book by looking forward and reflecting on the latest trends in society beyond the transport sector. It is recognised that transport is part of people’s everyday life. Solutions to unsustainable transport problems need to be actively supported by a whole series of changes in the city (ranging from urban form to streetscapes), the economy and people’s lifestyle beyond the vehicles (objects of conveyance) and the modal split. The modified sustainable transport strategies identified in Chapter 8 represent the leading sustainable transport modes recommended for spearheading the transition from unsustainable to sustainable transport in specific cities towards 2030 and beyond. In this way, the importance of local contexts has been underlined throughout this book. Moreover, it is suggested that the proposed framework in this book can be further applied to other developing countries in the search for their own specific pathways to sustainable transport.
