ABSTRACT

What some call the ‘hard problem of consciousness’ is that of explaining how the mere arrangement of physical stu could su ce for there being subjects of experiences. It has seemed to many inconceivable that any third-personal, physical or physiological characterization of body parts could adequately account for the fi rst-personal aspects of experience. Yet if we are material things, it would seem that all of our features must ultimately be accounted for in terms of the physical or physiological features of our constituent parts.
