ABSTRACT

The social worker as case manager can be compared to the contractor, who employs the right craftsmen for difficult jobs and consults with the customer to coordinate the expert services of these skilled workers. This chapter describes the case management (CM) method as a means to improve clients' quality of life by optimizing care coordination. This chapter addresses how has the CM method evolved in the history of social work? It also addresses what techniques are employed in the CM method? The chapter examines how does the CM method contribute to fulfilling human needs? It also examines what is the evidence that supports the CM method? The systematic design of the CM method facilitates an efficiently working system for delivering care to a client or client system. The CM method offers optimal support in the client situation by effectively coordinating the client's care provision and consequently reducing and eliminating individual and systematic problems.
