ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the clarification of one's value system. There is often a gap between our value system and our actions when it comes to our sexual behavior. Perhaps the best real guide to our system of values can be taken from our behaviours. There are two overriding problems with sexually compulsive behaviour: it often makes one feel shameful and it wastes a great deal of time. A useful way of thinking about one's values is to write his/her own obituary. Sit down with a couple of sheets of paper and write out how one would like to be remembered. Of course, come the day, whoever will do the eulogy will only say nice things or at least put the difficult aspects of his/her character into more appealing language. Pornography can also contradict our personal value systems. Some think that pornography inherently devalues its participants; it might also interfere or contradict our value system in other ways.
