ABSTRACT
There is wide agreement that what are frequently referred to as "interpersonal" or "social skills" are important and that educational system should develop them. One wants people to get along with each other, to set others at ease, to communicate effectively, to conduct themselves appropriately, and to feel confident in social intercourse, both for the advantages this brings in terms of the smooth functioning of social life, and for the satisfaction and absence of frustration, embarrassment, and unpleasantness that it brings to individuals. Where the rules of social intercourse are many, clear, and dogmatic, as has been the case in many societies, the problems of misunderstanding are minimised. The more social behaviour is regulated and ritualised, the easier it is to ensure ease and efficiency in human relationships. Values clarification purports to be a way of developing people's understanding in respect of values.
