ABSTRACT

This is the first chapter in Part III ‘Comparing trends, contradictions and future trajectories’. In this chapter, we use a comparative framework to examine experiences in the two countries in relation to trends in the policy and provision of teacher education with special attention to the responses to pressures brought about by developments in educational policy. We use the conceptual framework introduced in Chapter 2, to compare across the two country contexts: the socio-cultural influences on teacher education policy; the institutions where learning occurs; and the individual transitions as observed amongst the study participants.
