ABSTRACT

The internet has been with us for a quarter of a century. During that time digital devices have become infinitely more sophisticated and of course more accessible in all sorts of ways cheaper, smaller, more user friendly. Parents today might have grown up with digital technology in its development but be neither heavy users nor entirely comfortable with new technology. There is no doubt that many parents have significant anxieties about their children's use of the internet, social media and digital technology. Most parents know that pornography is freely available and accessible on the internet. Some games and apps running on tablets and mobile phones or indeed on some laptops regularly offer upgrades and extras that can be bought with just a tap, charging automatically to the person who bought the device, often with little delay or warning, unless they've configured it otherwise.
