ABSTRACT
Elise is 10 years old. She has recently joined a specialist music school on the strength of her composition skills. She has been learning piano for about 3 years and has just started percussion lessons. She plays her own pieces fluently in a light classical, tonal style as can be heard from Musical Example 1 at https://mirorbook.com/, which she played at my invitation in our first
session. She uses some Alberti-bass figurations in her left hand and a fairly standard I – VI – II – V bass line for much of the piece, but she also plays a contrasting chordal middle section, includes some hand crossing and takes the melody with the left hand, thus varying the texture. The music is attractive, with the style clearly echoing pieces she has heard. The piano music of Ludovico Einaudi is perhaps an influence.
