ABSTRACT
As the Grand Arm y gathered in Germany for the war against Russia, it became apparent that operations in Spain could no longer be controlled from Imperial Headquarters. Napoleon solved the problem by appointing K ing Joseph commander-inchief of all the French armies in Spain, with Marshal Jourdan as his chief of staff.
