As the long bayonet-tipped lines of the 5th Division dis appeared in the direction of the French, the Peer rode towards Point 901 and the 4th Division to tell General Cole to advance. That division must have stepped off about five o’clock, just as the first big clashes were occurring in the centre and right.1
