Location, size, and shape of cities as influenced by environmental factors: the urban environment writ large

This is a paper about the interrelations of location, size, and shape of cities and environmental factors — about the national urban system, its development, and about the characteristics of the urban environment. The purpose is to provide a general vantage point from which to understand the nature of the new resources that are of increasing significance in an urbanized age.
