ABSTRACT

The Pueblo style derives much of its content from ruins. More money and effort have gone into the study of the ruins of the Southwest than into that of any other compara ble region of the United States. It may seem that we know all we need to know about these ruins, and, indeed, we do know a lot about where and when; but questions of who, what, and why are still very open. Archaeology is still developing in both content and technique, and in this chapter I present some new ideas about the archaeology of the Great Pueblo period.
