ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of the book. With many publications currently exploiting the relatively vogue world of wellbeing, this book focuses on what it means in the ever-changing world of public sector management, whose boundaries seemingly grow more blurred by the day. It discusses that wellbeing is very much an area for enormous improvement, and that managers and leaders can create an improved workplace environment by paying attention to what is actually going on for employees, by being sensitive and attentive to their needs, and by ensuring work has both meaning and purpose. The book aims at managers working primarily in public sector employment globally, but is also applicable to other managers, HR professionals and occupational health workers in the private sector, as well as those engaged on educational courses to do with health and wellbeing at work in whatever capacity.
