ABSTRACT
Ties can be used to displace and/or extend syncopations across the bar line. In Example 7.2 the brackets above the staff correspond to bracketed figures in Example 7.1, in their original metric position. The brackets below the staff show how you can also relate these figures to the third syncopation in 7.1, but starting on the second or third eighth-notes of the beat.
