ABSTRACT

As you sing, you will have to decide whether you should switch solmization syllables (depending on the system you are using) and, if so, where. These decisions represent a genuine leap in your sight-singing because they require you to evaluate the music in a much more sophisticated way than before. Rather than merely reacting to the musical surface you will now need to think about what keys are being implied, and you will be forced on occasion to embrace the ambiguity of a passage that could just as easily be in one key as in the next. Musical sensitivity and a willingness to experiment with different options will serve you well as you study the performance of modulations.
