ABSTRACT

Developments in technology in recent decades have opened up new potential for pedagogic software in music. At the University of Huddersfield, England, this potential has been explored through the development of a series of software packages over the last 25 years designed to assist in the teaching of music technology, mostly intended for use in higher education. Often the developments were motivated by specific pedagogic needs at Huddersfield, but all the software has been internationally distributed and three of the packages won European Academic Software Awards. This chapter begins by outlining those developments before focusing on one of the most recent projects-one that, although closely related to the earlier packages, is aimed at use in lower secondary school music education.
