ABSTRACT
The plan for the monograph is to follow the arc that Locke lays out for the Essay. First, explicate the parts of Locke’s theory of ideas that will be relevant to his account of knowledge of the external world. Second, understand how Locke accounts for knowledge of the external world in the terms of his definition of knowledge. Finally, draw out some consequences from this account of knowledge of the external world for skepticism and idealism.
