ABSTRACT

Over the past 20 years, the scholarship of civic engagement and service-learning has grown both in amount and rigor, and has helped to show empirically the benefits of service-learning to divisions of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. These findings have helped solidify this high-impact pedagogical practice as an integral part of a postsecondary educational experience. While not an exhaustive list, numerous scholars have identified many positive outcomes from students who have participated in service-learning or civic engagement experiences, including:
