ABSTRACT

There are three phrases in Irit Regev’s chapter which stand out for me as being of immense signifi cance and which thread through this response:

1 ‘the relationship between individuals and their social environment’, 2 ‘sense of belonging … feelings of distance and alienation’, 3 ‘when people feel that they are part of a social fabric that is characterised by

mutual responsibility, social support, and appropriate organisation of services, the stress experienced in situations of continuous [military] tension is mitigated’.
