ABSTRACT

In recent years there has been a heightened interest in studying the link between tourism/leisure activities and subjective wellbeing of travellers. The scholarly tourism literature is replete with studies that have demonstrated in dierent experience settings that the nature of trip behaviour and trip characteristics directly aects tourists, experience outcomes and subjective value of tourists’ experiences. The goal of this chapter is threefold: (1) to delineate the connection between tourism activities and subjective wellbeing by reviewing the extant literature and theoretical underpinning guiding this connection; (2) to identify research method issues to spur further research; and (3) to highlight management and policy implications. The chapter concludes that the provision of quality tourism experiences should be created with the wellbeing of today’s and tomorrow’s travellers in mind.
