ABSTRACT

There are multiple rationales and practices which inform how early childhood education is thought of and practiced in societies. They stem from foundational ideas emanating from theories and experiences embedded in different worldviews. In dominant secular, Western worldviews, insights informing early childhood are derived from scientific endeavours which produce certainties and truths on how to educate young children in society. Islam presents an alternative to this version. As an example of an organised worldview with religion as its foundation, it connects truth and certainties to the sacred. In Islam, divine guidance touches every aspect of life, including the provision of early childhood education.
