ABSTRACT
When asked, almost all teachers respond that they want their former students to be positive, present, and contributing citizens in the world. However, in the next breath I sometimes hear an educator say, “Well. Um . . . I’m a science teacher. I didn’t sign up to teach this touchy-feely stuff. It is not my job. Students should be learning this stuff at home.” And, of course, we all agree. Yes, our students should be learning social and emotional skills at home, but in some homes they are not. And if they don’t learn them at all, then they will never get a chance to use all that awesome science they learned, because they won’t have the requisite social skills to hold down a job. Unfortunately, we all know that Ohm’s Law is not needed to sit on the couch and play video games.
