ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we will explore ways to take your students on adventures outside the classroom by taking advantage of virtual field trips (VFTs). There are so many wonderful virtual learning opportunities that can help your students gain knowledge in all subject areas. They can explore and learn about the world without leaving their classroom. Unfortunately, because of cutbacks and the demands of testing, many schools do not provide their students with the opportunity to take actual field trips, so virtual field trips can bring valuable learning to your students. We strongly feel that taking students on actual field trips to explore their community, town, city, or state are great learning experiences. If you are fortunate enough to go on a field trip in person, please Skype or do a Google Hangout with other classes while you are at the site. In this way the students sitting in their classrooms could go along on your adventure too. You can also record the trip and then share it later with other classes.
