ABSTRACT

Introduction The image of economics got somewhat puzzling after the economic crisis of 2008. Many economists now doubt that economics is able to provide answers to some of its core questions. After the crisis, many articles and books by well-known and respected economists stated that economists’ focus on self-interest and economizing action is misguided. Some announced that there was no invisible hand; others emphasized animal spirits instead of Homo Economicus. When one looks at debates concerning the crisis, it appears that economics is also in a crisis: it cannot provide explanations for its core problems, it cannot predict economic outcomes, etc. This is the first image of economics.
